Dr. Eugene Stead was definitely onto something when he created the first group of PA's in the U.S. in 1965.  He gathered together former U.S. navy hospital corpsmen and U.S. Army combat medics for a fast-track medical education that laid the groundwork for what we now know as Physician Assistants.  Little did he know that PA's would become one of the top jobs of the 21st century.  Current numbers indicate that there are roughly 70,000 PA's working in the US.  Considering the shortage of primary care physicians, that number is sure to grow in the near- and distant- future. 
According the the U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics, "......Employment of physician assistants is expected to grow 27 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations...."  Consdering the fact that Baby Boomers are about to hit our healthcare system, you made a great choice when you decided to become a PA.  There is a very high demand for your services, and that demand is only sure to grow.  Considering that there are only 148 accredited programs in the U.S, the supply of PA's is going to stay the same- making your services more and more valuable.
